Résumé
The catalogue of an exhibition held at the Musée du Montparnasse from 12 May-2 October 2005. Presents works by, and discusses the fate of, Jewish and non-Jewish members of the artists' colony in Montparnasse who were deported during World War II. The Jews were emigrants from Germany, Austria, and Eastern Europe. They had come to Paris attracted by the artistic climate, but also to escape antisemitism. Pp. 12-15 contain an essay by Sylvie Buisson, "Montparnasse déporté: Shoah et résistances d'artistes". Pp. 38-110 present short biographies of the 123 deported artists, of whom 111 were Jews, based on Hersh Fenster's "Undzere farpainikte kinstler" (1951). Only 14 of the Jewish artists survived.
