Down and out in paris and london

Detailed account of Orwell's time in Paris and London as he is facing poverty and hunger. The book alternates between anecdotes of the people he meets, his own experience as well as his personal thoughts and reflections on his condition. I found it deeply immersive and very hard to put down as Orwell is able to always keep his reader on their feet. The characters are endearing through their imperfections and their comedic rant which unsuccessfully tries to make us forget the misery they are living in. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to understand, the different aspects and consequences of poverty on individuals and how it is to live through it.

A great surprise, the author really makes you feel what he felt and I liked reading this as my first book from him because I think it’s interesting to know the author before reading his works, knowing what he experienced and what life experience might have influenced his other works.
