A good read

I was looking for a good read for the winter and am not disappointed. Though the plot was complex, the author leads us through this fantasy with verve, creating a coherent setting full of magic and mystery. At first, I had a hard time with Alex, the main character, but through the pages we witness her grow, and feel empathy towards her. Darlington's gentleman persona is also quite interesting, and I'd like a sequel to know more about their fate!
